Botulinum toxin, colloquially known as Botox, also comes in other forms such as Xeomin, Dysport, Jeuveau, and Daxxify. There are slight differences but I will use the term "botox" to cover all forms of botulinum toxin. This is what you need to know to experience the best Botox in Colorado Springs.
-Botox relaxes the muscle that it is injected into. Choosing an injector that knows facial anatomy is of the utmost importance.
-Dosing of the product is important. The same dose does not fit every face. The injector should evaluate the muscle's strength, age, patient's experience with toxins, skin texture and thickness before choosing individualized dose.
-Don't compare units. Just because your friend got 40 units doesn't mean you will. Units can also change from visit to visit.
-Botox takes 2-10 days to reach therapeutic level in the body. Peak effect takes place around 4-8 weeks after injection. Effect wears off in about 12 weeks. This varies slightly based on patient's metabolism, dose of toxin, activity level, and experience with toxins.
-Based on the above timeline, "Don't love it or hate it" for 2 weeks. A two week post-injection follow up appointment is crucial to evaluate the level of relaxation. At this point, enhancements can be made.
-Read the consent forms and instructions prior to arriving for your appointment.
-Before and After pictures will be taken. This is super important in the aesthetic industry to evaluate your individualized results.
Pre-appointment instructions: -Avoid blood-thinning medications, supplements, herbs for 7-14 days prior to appointment. This includes aspirin, NSAIDS, ginkgo biloba, ginger, turmeric, vitamin E. Please ask your healthcare provider prior to stopping prescribed medications.
-Avoid Alcohol for 24 hours prior.
-Come to appointment with clean face (no makeup or tinted moisturizer)
-Begin taking Arnica tablets if this was discussed with your injector
-Please tell your injector if you are experiencing an illness or infection during the week of your procedure. It might be safer to postpone appointment
-Do not schedule appointment within 2 weeks of any life event or important date.
-Other than bruising/swelling, there is minimal to no downtime after injections.
Post-appointment instructions:
-Avoid touching your face for 4 hours.
-For 4 hours after procedure, no heavy exercise or extreme heat.
-No other facial procedures for the next 24 hours--facials, peels, microdermabrasion, etc.
-For 1 hour after procedure, perform facial exercises (make the facial expressions that move the injected/targeted muscles). This will help the toxin bind.
-There will be swelling and bruising. You can apply ice for 10 minutes at a time. Use of Arnica can be helpful. Ask your healthcare provider prior to Arnica use.
